THE CHOICE METHOD
The Choice Method (aka exchange method) is an effective framework that requires little effort and initial nutritional knowledge!
Food exchange lists were first developed in the 1950s as a user- friendly tool to deliver individualized diets.
Foods are divided into different groups based on their carbohydrate, protein, and fat content. Then, personalized meal plans can be created by allocating exchanges- or choices- of each food group based on a ‘person’s unique energy and macronutrient requirements.
With a choice-based meal plan, people are free to swap foods within a food group. Clients have the flexibility to decide which foods to eat taking into consideration their personal preferences, habits, culture, and tradition.
However, instead of tracking individual foods like you would when calorie and macronutrient tracking, the Choice Method provides you with a structure that you can use to create your daily menus.
For this reason, it is less time consuming and a great tool to help you develop new habits you can maintain long term.
